_ Collectively Narrated
Human interaction has come down to a minimum in this new world of rushing coats and hurrying boots, covered faces, and mandated distance. We do not know those who surround us and. While We long for connection. The modern metropolis public space is a commuting zone, getting you from here to there as streamlined as possible. And where it isn’t, relaxation is planned, mandated, and structured.
Ownership is oblivious.
Care not given.
Lines are blurred.
We are afraid to use how we seem fit because we do not want to infringe. Not on the space, rather on the convenience of others. We do not want to burden someone else.
When was the last time we talked to a stranger, like really talked to them. When was the last time we cut straight through the small talk and got to a conversation– with somebody we didn’t know before. We all are stuck in our own worlds. Bursting the proverbial bubble is no small task. Directly taking on the ever-growing isolation would be bold and arguably naive. We might have a shot, by starting smaller and trying to talk to people—a seemingly simple task.
The Project
Talking to people and recording their stories and thoughts on a space gives a representative core sample of the area. The event ‘_____, Collectively Narrated’ aims to facilitate random interactions again. By offering a community and space focused event, ‘Collectively Narrated’ gives an opportunity for passers-by to partake in the building of objects, be it functional or sculptural. After the event, their stories are displayed on the corresponding objects, allowing passers-by to understand the objects and gain a deeper understanding of the space they are in and the people that inhabit it.
_ Collectively Narrated is, first and foremost, a bank of the stories and comments of those who occupy a space.
